Release Information
The movie premiered in theaters on January 9, 2026, with distribution by Lionsgate after earlier international
The story of Greenland 2: Migration picks up five years after the devastation caused by the impact of an interstellar comet that nearly destroyed Earth. The planet has become a chaotic and dangerous wasteland — plagued by unpredictable weather, residual radioactivity, and tectonic instability.
The survivors from the original film — the Garrity family — now live in an underground bunker in Greenland. John Garrity, a skilled engineer and father played by Gerard Butler, continues to lead the group’s efforts for survival. But when a massive earthquake collapses their bunker and triggers a deadly tsunami, the family is forced to flee.
With the bunker destroyed and few safe options remaining, John, his wife Allison (played by Morena Baccarin), and their teenage son Nathan (played by Roman Griffin Davis) embark on a perilous journey across a ruined world. They hope to find a rumored sanctuary in Europe — possibly inside the Mediterranean region — where other survivors are attempting to rebuild civilization.

Unlike its predecessor — which focused on large-scale disaster action — Greenland 2: Migration leans more into survival, character relationships, and the emotional toll of rebuilding humanity after global collapse. The setting shifts from a desperate escape to a struggle for long-term survival in an unforgiving world.
The film blends classic disaster elements with intimate family drama and explores how hope can persist even when the world appears broken beyond repair.
Reception
Critics offered mixed reviews — praising Gerard Butler’s performance and scale, but some felt the emotional tone and pacing were uneven compared to the original film. Rotten Tomatoes shows moderate ratings from critics and audiences alike.
After its theatrical run, Greenland 2: Migration became available on premium video-on-demand platforms like Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home starting late January 2026.
Greenland 2: Migration continues the epic tale of survival first introduced in Greenland (2020). With its mix of intense post-apocalyptic action, emotional stakes, and strong lead performances, it adds a deeper layer to the franchise’s story of resilience in the face of world-ending catastrophe.
